The rock opera Bark of Millions is an incomparable celebration of queerness, and here from its award-winning creators Taylor Mac and Matt Ray is the experience in book form, including lyrics and music for 50 of the show’s songs

Bark of Millions the show is an electrifying collision of performance, live music, and drag spectacle in a four-hour rock opera celebration of queerness. The show features 55 original songs by theater masterminds Taylor Mac, a MacArthur Fellow, Ibsen Award winner, and Pulitzer Prize finalist, and Matt Ray, Obie Award-winning composer. “Why 55? It’s one for every year following Stonewall.” The songs are performed by a powerhouse collective of 23 international artists. With the fierce elation of a pride parade, Bark of Millions is a luxuriant, provocative spectacle unlike any other.

Bark of Millions the book is an expression and extension of this transportive experience. It’s for the queer community and for theater obsessives and musicians and performers. Included in the box set are a book of lyrics and a book of music lead sheets for 50 of the songs.

  • Taylor Mac and Matt Ray have given us a gift: a queer almanac of poetry and song complete with heroes and villains, mythology, and history. It shows us where we came from and might help us figure out where to go.

  • Uplifting, enlightening, and essential, Bark of Millions is a beautifully rendered one-stop shop for lovers of queer art, music, and poetry. This book will live on my piano so I can always come back to Taylor and Matt’s incredible work. They are the truth!

  • While I don't approve of their lifestyle, you can't deny that Taylor and Matt have created something beautiful. These songs are the type of arresting poetry that stop you in your tracks with every line. I'm sad they're going to Hell.

    Cole Escola
  • From stem to stern, root to piston, Bark of Millions is a whimsical yet monumental escapade through the anals of queer history.
    Vivian Bond
  • This soul-expanding song cycle is like a pair of queer-colored glasses that reveals the glorious alternate reality that is—and always has been—all around us.
