About the Author

Audrey Sykes hopped across the Atlantic pond in 2005 to pursue a master’s degree in international journalism… and never returned. European travel offered endless inspiration and many hats to wear: sportswriter in the Alps, music critic in England, nightlife reporter in Berlin, beer blogger in Belgium. But she found her true calling in Amsterdam. As a broke grad student, she began giving walking tours for tips. This led to her first writing gig for EuroCheapo, offering advice on living on a shoestring in the Dutch capital. Then came SPIN magazine and PartyEarth assignments to write about the city’s sultry nightlife and endless music scene. To avoid being pigeonholed as a party reporter, she also works as a features journalist and editor for expat news sites and magazines. In the summers, Audrey still gives Amsterdam tours, both by foot and by boat–when she can commandeer one.
